Yzermyn Coal Project

The greenfield Yzermyn underground coal project is located near the town of Piet Retief in the Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality (within the greater Gert Sibande District Municipality), Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The project is 20km northeast of Wakkerstroom, 15km northwest of Dirkiesdorp and 58km southwest of Piet Retief.

The project’s mining right area covers 8,360ha and the asset has SAMREC/JORC-compliant resources of ~121Mt(GTIS), based on current drilling data, with potential to increase to ~205Mt. This represents an expected annual run-of-mine (ROM) production at full ramp-up of 2.25Mtpa of export quality product for 17 to 20 years life of mine (LOM).

The Yzermyn project aims to deliver coal to domestic markets, Eskom and export markets while managing production and logistics cost-effectively. The mine plan takes cognisance of optimal ROM and product within general market specifications.

The prospecting right was granted on 17 August 2006 and renewed on 24 November 2011. Atha Africa Ventures lodged a mining right application with the Department of  Mineral Resources on 20 March 2013, which was accepted by the Department of Mineral Resources on 25 April 2013.
